Climate

The Triangle Area, centrally located between the Blue Ridge Mountains to the west and the Atlantic coast to the east, enjoys a favorable climate. The mountains form a partial barrier to cold air masses moving eastward across the United States. As a result, there are few days in the heart of the winter season when the temperature falls below 20 degrees. In the summer season morning temperatures usually drop in the the lower 70's and afternoon temperatures reach about 90 degrees.
